Lamellar grey iron:\u00a0<\/strong>Lamellar grey cast iron alloys are so called due to the presence of graphite in the form of lamellae in their microstructure, and parts made from these alloys are used in the cast state for many purposes. From a mechanical point of view, the graphite lamellae act like small cracks, giving the material good machinability, as they favour the detachment of swarf during the machining process.<\/p>\n

Nodular grey iron\u00a0<\/strong>The structure of this family of alloys is obtained directly from the casting of grey cast iron by adding small quantities of certain chemical elements, such as magnesium, which cause graphite to precipitate in the form of nodules. These metallic materials have good wear resistance, a high modulus of elasticity and resistance to fatigue. They are also characterised by better resistance to shocks and static stresses when compared to lamellar graphite grey cast irons, but have a lower damping capacity and lower thermal conductivity.<\/p>\n

The sand casting process is characterised by the fusion of technical precision and innovation. Starting with the meticulous design of a model, usually in wood or metal, we move on to moulding, adapting the method to the scale of the series - either through BMD automatic moulding equipment for larger series or self-drying moulding for smaller series. The chosen metal, defined by the desired final part, is poured into the prepared mould and, after a strictly controlled cooling period, demoulding follows, ensuring the integrity of the part. Each piece, before being considered complete, goes through a detailed finishing process and is subjected to careful inspection with state-of-the-art instruments.<\/p>\n
